🍽️ Poornam Boorelu Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)
  • 1 cup jaggery (grated)
  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder

Instructions:

  1. Preparing the Filling (Poornam):

    • Rinse the chana dal thoroughly and soak it in water for about 4-5 hours.
    • Drain the soaked dal and grind it into a coarse paste without adding water.
    • Transfer the ground dal to a pan and cook it on medium heat until it becomes thick and dry.
    • Add the grated jaggery and cardamom powder to the cooked dal mixture. Cook until the jaggery melts and blends well with the dal. The filling (poornam) should have a thick, sticky consistency. Allow it to cool.
  2. Making the Outer Layer:

    • In a separate bowl, mix the rice flour with enough water to make a smooth, lump-free batter. The consistency should be similar to dosa batter.
  3. Assembling the Boorelu:

    • Take a small portion of the rice flour batter and flatten it on your palm.
    • Place a spoonful of the prepared poornam (filling) in the center of the flattened batter.
    • Carefully seal the edges of the batter around the filling, shaping it into a smooth ball. Ensure there are no cracks.
  4. Frying:

    • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
    • Once the oil is hot, gently drop the assembled boorelu into the oil, a few at a time.
